中国大陆屏蔽了中文版维基新闻，但英文版Wikinews可以正常访问。1月9日，中国大陆用户使用社交网站Twitter报道了网站被封锁的消息，shi zhao同学和Poeloq同学也在维基媒体基金会邮件列表上报告在北京和其它城市无法访问维基新闻。封锁的原因仍然未知，Wikinews联系了中国政府，但未获答复。 另据AFP报道，中国当局在过去一周以打击在线色情的名义关闭或屏蔽了91家网站。
