根据Google趋势统计，“Open source”作为搜索关键词其使用量呈下将趋势，从正面解释可以认为用户对一般意义上的开源概念的兴趣下降了，更感兴趣于特定的开源项目：SourceForge托管的开源项目增加了10%；Firefox占有率突破了20%；Windows仍然占据绝对主导地位，但Linux和Mac都有小幅上升；ASUS和其它制造商推出的上网本虽然一开始都预装Linux，但习惯的力量又将消费者拉回到Windows的怀抱，显然2008并不是Linux desktop之年。
