Forrester的一份研究报告称，企业使用微软Microsoft Word作为字处理软件是出于习惯而非必要，报告发现企业正在考虑其它选择，因为Web改变了人们创造和分享文档的方式。这份叫《困难的分手：Microsoft Word爱情故事》的报告，作者是分析专家Sheri McLeish，认为企业可能将仍然使用Word，原因是用户熟悉，或者是因为它是以前在软件上的投资遗留，而不是因为是最佳选择。 微软肯定也早就认为到这一点，它正在测试Microsoft Office的在线版Office Live Workspace，以对抗竞争对手如Google Docs。Live Workspace将在今年晚些时候开始beta测试。
